BURNLEY midfielder Scott Arfield has been named in Canada's 23-man squad for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Arfield is set for his first taste of tournament football after being included in Octavio Zambrano's squad for the tournament in the United States.

It means the 28-year-old will miss almost all of Burnley's pre-season schedule, with the Gold Cup taking place between July 7 and 26.

Canada will meet up this week for a training camp ahead of their opening match in Harrison, New Jersey on July 7.

“We have a dynamic team that has speed and offensive weapons,” said Zambrano. “We have a balance between offence and defence. We want to go forward and have a high tempo, but we also have to make sure we have the defenders that are up to the task in our end.”

Canada will play their group matches on July 7 against French Guiana in Harrison, on July 11 against Costa Rica in Houston, and on July 14 against Honduras in Frisco just outside Dallas.

Arfield has won seven caps for Canada since switching his allegiance from Scotland a year ago, with his dad born in Toronto.
