TOM Heaton has retained his place in the England squad for a World Cup qualifier with Scotland and a friendly in France next month.

The Burnley captain had been under pressure with Stoke City man Jack Butland set for a return to the Three Lions squad, but Heaton has been included as one of four goalkeepers in a 25-man squad, alongside Joe Hart and Fraser Forster.

But defender Michael Keane misses out on a call-up thanks to the calf injury that has forced him to miss Burnley's final three games of the Premier League season.

The 24-year-old started both England games in March and although he is not officially part of the squad this time around, he will report to St George's Park for one day during the build-up to the games.

Former Burnley defender Kieran Trippier is also included in an England squad for the first time.

Trippier made 185 appearances during his time at Turf Moor and has impressed for Tottenham in recent weeks.

England face Scotland at Hampden Park on Saturday, June 10 before travelling to Paris for a friendly with France on Tuesday, June 13.
