DEFENDER Darragh Lenihan is a hoping three points against Aston Villa this weekend can give Rovers momentum to take in to the final day at Brentford.

Rovers’ hopes of beating the drop were given a lift on Sunday when they saw relegation rivals Birmingham City beaten by Villa.

But Rovers remain two points from safety going in to the final two games and Lenihan believes the squad’s togetherness can bring them a vital three points against Steve Bruce’s side ahead of the final day trip to Brentford on May 7.

The 23-year-old said: “It could come down to just that one game. The gaffer said it to us afterwards (against Wolves) we have to stick together, we just need to do our best and look to get the points.

“It’s a massive game this weekend, and not only that, to take some momentum in to the last game.

“We will be looking to use home advantage in that game and hopefully get the three points.”

Lenihan was back in the side for the Wolves stalemate, only two weeks after limping out of the defeat at Reading with an injury to his ankle ligaments as the Irishman returned sooner than expected for what was his 42nd outing of the season.

Rovers know their fate is not in their own hands heading into the season finale but Lenihan insists their focus is on their own fixtures.

He added: “We have to focus on ourselves, we have two have big games left and if we can get two wins then you never know.

“We have two massive games and in this division anyone can beat anyone.

“Villa is going to be a tough game, like every game in the Championship, but we will just do our best.

“That’s the beauty of the Championship, and especially at home we are going to be looking to get three points.”

Lenihan was pleased to come through the 90 minutes following the ankle ligament injury which threatened to rule him out for the remainder of the season.

But he says staying up remains his priority.

“The ankle feels good – it was good to get through the 90 minutes,” he said.

“But there are a lot bigger things than my ankle.”
