SAM Gallagher says Rovers have to view every point earned as a positive and believes they have given themselves hope of avoiding the drop after four points from their Easter fixtures.

Gallagher scored his 12th of the season to earn Rovers a share of the spoils against Bristol City on Monday as they moved one point from safety with three games to go.

Rovers were below-par prior to Gallagher’s equaliser, and the Southampton loanee admits there was a feeling of disappointment in the dressing room at the final whistle.

But he says they will add the point to their tally and prepare well ahead of Saturday’s trip to Wolves.

“We have to look at every point as a positive, but also we need to be determined enough not to settle for point and strive for all three,” the 21-year-old told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“It was definitely a big goal and point for us, but ideally we wanted three and I think you saw that from the second half performance.

“Naturally we were disappointed not to get three points but the gaffer said it was not the end of the world, we’ve given ourselves a chance and will keep pushing to the end.”

Gallagher ended a 12 game wait, his longest of the season, when he headed home an Elliott Bennett cross to draw Rovers level with 19 minutes to play.

And he was to be denied what looked an excellent shout for a penalty shortly afterwards as he appeared to be tripped in the box by Korey Smith.

“A few decisions didn’t go our way including a stonewall penalty I thought,” Gallagher said.

“At half-time it (the head coach’s team talk) was a reflection on the goal that we conceded and what we could do better.

“But at the same time he was trying to motivate us and telling us that the crowd would get behind us if we got the next goal.

“It was an amazing feeling to get that goal, especially infront of such an amazing crowd, and I want a few more now before the end of the season.

“Second half the fans were amazing, they were the 12th man, and on the pitch you could see that it gave us a massive boost.

“That’s the kind of support we need now to push us on.

“We will take the point and try and take that in to the next game.”

Rovers ended a near five month wait for an away win in the league when they claimed the three points at Nottingham Forest on Good Friday.

Two of their remaining three fixtures come away from home, starting with a trip to Molineux on Saturday as they finish the season at Brentford.

And Gallagher admits the win at the City Ground has given Rovers a renewed belief they can pick up points on their travels.

He added: “We have shown good performances away from this season.

“We feel that we can go anywhere and get a result, we went to Newcastle and won, and in those two games we know that we have it in our squad to go there and get results.

“We will work hard this week and hopefully take that in to the game on Saturday.”
