BLACKBURN Rovers owners, the Venky’s, admit the club find themselves in an ‘alarming position’ but believe Tony Mowbray is the best man to take them forward.

The owners released a statement which was read out at tonight’s Supporters Consultation Meeting at Ewood Park.

Rovers are unbeaten in their seven games under head coach Mowbray who replaced Owen Coyle in February.

The full statement from the owners read: “Unfortunately we are unable to attend tonight's Supporters Meeting, however we recognise the value of these consultations and we look forward to receiving feedback from the event.

“The views of the fanbase are very important to us and will be taken on board in the best interest of the club.

“There's no hiding from the fact that results this season haven't been good enough and we are well aware of the alarming position we find ourselves in the table.

“However, in manager Tony Mowbray, we believe we have found someone who is the best fit for the club at this time.

“Recent performances and the seven-match unbeaten sequence since Tony took charge have been extremely encouraging and we are pleased to hear that he has the full support of the playing squad, staff and supporters.

“This togetherness will be crucial as we look to achieve our short-term objective of ensuring we remain in the Championship next season.

“Tony is a very focused, driven and experienced individual, who has a track record for success in this division, and we look forward to seeing where he can take the team in the future
