ELLIOTT Bennett says Blackburn Rovers will approach their double header at promotion chasing pair Brighton and Reading with confidence after recent improved showings on the road.

Rovers have lost just one of their last five away trips, though they haven’t recorded a league win on their travels since November.

But draws at Norwich and Fulham already this month, as well as a good showing at fellow promotion hopefuls Sheffield Wednesday in February, has given Bennett belief that Rovers are moving in the right direction on their travels.

With five of their remaining eight games coming away from Ewood Park, Rovers will likely need to add to their two league victories on their travels so far this season to beat the drop.

And Bennett said: “Going to Brighton and Reading, we will go there with the same preparation that we did for the last two away games at Norwich and Fulham and on another occasion we could have come away with four points from those two games where I imagine no-one would have given us a hope.

“We’ll go there with confidence, work hard and make sure that we’re ready for them.

“I think without winning as many as we should have done, we’ve been playing well and there have been some really positive signs.

“We want to continue that. We have had the international break now to work on things on the training ground that we haven’t been able to do with the games coming thick and fast.”

The 28-year-old has started six of Rovers’ last seven away games, and will be hoping to be involved against one of his former sides in Brighton where he made 100 appearances between 2009 and 2011.

He played a further seven times for the Seagulls, who look on course for promotion to the Premier League, during a loan spell in 2014, and Bennett added: “I think they do everything well and have had a fantastic season.

“But there are no friends when we go down there, I’ll be looking to take all three points from them.

“Obviously they will have their own agenda but our agenda is the most important to me and I’ll be going there with the team looking to win.”
