JOEY Barton is set to shake off a hamstring problem to feature for Burnley at Liverpool on Sunday, while Tom Heaton will also return in goal for the Clarets.

But Clarets chief Sean Dyche confirmed Steven Defour and Johann Berg Gudmundsson are both still absentees as they look to recovery from hamstring and knee problems respectively.

"Tom is good. He was ill last week. He’s well," Dyche said of his captain, who missed the defeat at Swansea.

"Steven Defour won’t make it, he’s still on his way back, we’ve got to make sure with that one, it’s slightly longer than we hoped for.

"Johann equally won’t make it, he’s still having some trouble with his medial ligaments and we’re trying to get that to calm down. Once it’s settled down it’s quite a quick recovery period after that but at the moment it’s still niggling so he won’t be fit."

Barton was withdrawn with 10 minutes to go at the Liberty Stadium, but Dyche said: "It was more a precaution, it was tightening up in the game, obviously we didn't know what the week would bring, and it was a good decision now because if he had carried on, you never know, with hamstrings, how long it will take. So he's fine.
