What do you make of the appointment of Tony Mowbray as Blackburn Rovers’ head coach?

SAM JONES

ANYONE is better than Owen Coyle, but this is another underwhelming appointment. Mowbray was last seen at struggling Coventry in League One. And the last time he did something of note was guiding West Brom to the Premier League almost 10 years ago.

But realistically we could not have expected anyone better while the club is in this state. We all know that there is a much bigger problem than who is the manager.

On a positive note, it is good to see David Dunn getting a chance as a first team coach.

PAUL YATES

BEGGARS belief, out of the frying pan into the fire. Another well-travelled and experienced individual with a recent CV you wouldn’t be proud of.

The opportunity was there to appoint a young go ahead manager like Gareth Ainsworth but as usual we have chosen the cheap option.

The only positive is that the players will have someone to impress on Friday but relegation is now sealed. The club is hell bent on self-destruction and regularly adds another nail to the coffin.

KELVIN WILKINS

I was never a fan of Owen Coyle as was the case for many Rovers fans, not only for his time at Burnley but also for his track record since.

It was an underwhelming appointment and he did little to make me think otherwise during his time as manager.

However, considering his challenges to win over the fans and work with the owners, I thought he conducted himself admirably and whilst I am happy to see him disassociated with the club, he does not leave with any shame or bad taste.

Tony Mowbray was not the first name on many lips but it is a quick appointment and hopefully he will galvanise the team and give us a system to play to, rather than the adhoc tactics Coyle deployed.

Whilst he cannot bring players in, he has a squad capable of staying up if he addresses the defensive frailties without compromising the attacking intent.

Whatever preferences I had, I wish him well and it is the right time to get behind the manager and the players in our challenges ahead.
