THE ‘silver lining’ of Burnley’s FA Cup exit at the hands of non-league Lincoln City is that they can throw everything at the Premier League and reaching the target of survival as quickly as possible, believes James Tarkowski.

The Turf defender was part of the Clarets side dumped out of the competition at the fifth round stage by the National League leaders last week.

Burnley will look to bounce back from that shock defeat this weekend when a Premier League trip to Hull City starts a run of four successive away league games for Sean Dyche’s side, who currently have a 10-point gap to the bottom three.

As well as 18th placed Hull the Clarets also play Swansea (15th) and Sunderland (20th) in that run, and while Tarkowski was disappointed to see the cup run, and the chance to play at Wembley, slip by, he is keen to refocus attentions to the league.

“It’s the biggest part of any footballer’s dream to go and play at Wembley,” he said. “I’m disappointed not to get there but we’ve got to concentrate on the league now.

“We’ve got a few big weeks ahead against some teams that we could really do with beating. We’ll look forward to them and move on from there.

“We play a few teams down there who we could do with taking points off. We’ll look forward to the next game and hopefully get the three points.”

Asked if this could be a crucial phase of the season, the 24-year-old added: “Possibly, but I think every stage in this league is big.

“You want to beat every team that you play against, whether that be somebody at the top of the league or somebody down at the bottom. We need to beat everyone to get the points that we need.

“We’ve not really got our just rewards from some of the performances away from home recently but we’re looking to win in every game that we go in to.”

The cup exit means Burnley have 13 games of the season remaining to secure safety and Tarkowski believes being able to focus on the league is a positive to come of the Lincoln loss.

“That’s probably the silver lining - we can put everything in to the Premier League now,” he added.

“It’s been a good season so far but we’ve not reached our target yet so we’ve got to keep working towards that.”
