SAM Vokes has hailed the unique team spirit within the Clarets squad after they celebrated taking a point off Premier League leaders Chelsea with a trip to watch Drake at the Manchester Arena.

A picture posted on Andre Gray’s Twitter account showed the striker at the rapper’s gig with Matt Lowton, Tom Heaton, George Boyd, Tendayi Darikwa, James Tarkowski, Michael Keane and Vokes.

And Vokes was full of praise for the togetherness within the Burnley squad when he was asked about the night out this week.

“It was alright, it was a good evening,” the 27-year-old said. “We organise it all together. Nobody really takes it on themselves. All the lads get on well, we’re all good friends and socialise as well so it’s good to have that team spirit.

“I’ve never had anything like there is here. This group of lads is brilliant and it probably shows out on the pitch as well.

“When we perform we’re a tight knit group and it’s like that through the good times and the bad times. We’re having more good times at the minute.”

Socialising with teammates is nothing new to Vokes, who enjoyed a close relationship with the rest of the Wales squad during their run to the Euro 2016 semi-finals last summer.

“I see massive resemblances (to Wales) in the way that the team works out on the pitch and on the training ground,” he said.

“In the changing room, day to day, it’s a tight knit group and I’ve been very privileged to be involved in two fantastic squads like that.”

Much has been made of the unity and togetherness which has helped to underpin Burnley’s recent successes.

The Clarets are 10 points clear of the relegation places in the Premier League and looking good for survival, while they can book a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals with victory over Lincoln City at Turf Moor today (12.30pm).

Vokes believes it is boss Sean Dyche who has helped to create that singular mentality that has driven Burnley forward.

“Since I’ve been here he’s installed that mentality in to the team and obviously when you play against the bigger teams like Chelsea it’s going to be exaggerated and made a big thing of,” he said.

“It’s something that we’ve been doing for years, whether it’s in the Championship or the Premier League, and that mentality that you see out on the pitch is the same that you see every day on the training field. It’s not new to us when we get results like that against the big teams.

“I’m sure he is (destined for big things).

“With the success that he’s had here at Burnley I’m sure he will. At the minute he’s doing a great job here.”
