A GROUP of Blackburn Rovers fans hope to organise a second red card protest of the season during Sunday’s FA Cup fifth round tie against Manchester United.

The Ewood Working Men’s Club fans’ group were involved in a similar display against the club’s owners in the 3-2 win over Brentford in November.

That came on the sixth anniversary of the Rao family taking over the reins at Rovers, with fans encouraged to raise a red card to Venky’s in the 18th and 75th minutes, a nod to the club’s formation in 1875.

The group say their idea for a protest wouldn’t disrupt the game, and that fans can either bring red cards to the game or download an image on to their phones, in a bid to highlight their disapproval at the club’s owners.

A statement released by the group read: “Whether you attend games regularly and still want to get behind the lads or are a staunch boycotter, we are all inten-sely unhappy about what has happened to the club over the past six and a bit years.

“We are all desperate for things to change, we all still have passionate feelings about our once proud, historic Blackburn Rovers.

“There is a way we could all briefly come together on Sunday - we could all play a part in giving a sign of our unhappiness to the huge viewing audience and beyond, by participating in some form or other in the red card 18/75 action.”

A Rovers spokesman said: “Everyone at the club is looking forward to what should be a great occasion, a positive experience and the biggest crowd of the season.

“We would encourage all supporters to really get behind the team and do everything they can to try to help us progress through to the quarter-finals of the competition.”
