SEAN Dyche was happy with the impact of his debutants in the defeat at Watford on Saturday.

Deadline day additions Robbie Brady and Ashley Westwood both came on in the second half for their first appearances for the club.

The duo had only trained briefly with their new teammates after signing on Tuesday and Dyche was keen to ease them into life at the club gently.

But the Clarets chief was happy with how both performed at Vicarage Road as they came off the bench in the second half with a Burnley a man and two goals down.

"I thought they came on and affected the game," said Dyche.

"Westy has got real good, quick thought on the pitch, quick awareness, he gets it down and plays quickly, finds good passes.

"Robbie with his desire to affect the game and his running power, and his set-pieces as well. A nice little start for both of them.

"His set-pieces were right on the money. We didn’t buy him for that, but it’s a nice thing to have when you can take set-pieces like that.

"I like my players to work with us first before they come into the side which is why I didn’t start them. They’ve had one day with us and Robbie had a hell of a day on Tuesday while we were trying to get that deal done."

Despite a 10th Premier League away defeat of the season Dyche believes his Burnley side showed they had the stomach for the fight in the Premier League.

"The second goal is a softish goal at that stage of the game. That’s my only question mark," said Dyche.

"To deliver a second half like that is tremendous and it tells you a lot about the character, the stomach for the fight and the belief in the team to go and be effective.

"I think our fans respond to that, they know they have a team who give every inch of themselves to win a game and that was on show.

"I thought there were some good moments of quality in there as well. It was good from the group to be on the front foot, to defend properly, to work and to play and create chances and I thought we did that."

The Clarets are now winless in 13 away games in league and cup this season, but the Burnley boss said his team are showing no signs of being worn down by that record as they continue to look for that elusive first win.

"There’s no baggage from this away thing," he said. "There could be a load of baggage from that but there’s none. We’re in the Premier League, it’s not easy to be rolling round the Premier League winning games away from home.

"We just go ‘yeah ok, that’s the challenge’. We haven’t won a game away? So what. Let’s go and take on the next one.

"We’ve got clarity and alignment from me and the staff to take on whatever challenge comes and we’ve got a big one next week against Chelsea."
