BLACKBURN Rovers Under-23 boss Damien Johnson felt the 3-0 scoreline flattered Wolves after watching his team suffer a Premier League 2 defeat on Monday night.

Rovers, who included Ryan Nyambe and Connor Mahoney in their starting XI, were in the game for long periods at AFC Telford United's New Bucks Head but, after Willem Tomlinson hit the post for the visitors, Wolves went up the other end and opened the scoring.

And the home side shaded the second half and scored two late goals to complete the victory.

"I think for large periods of the game we were in it and more than held our own," said Johnson.

"The first half goal was disappointing with it being from a set-piece particularly as it came at a stage in the game where we were on top. Willem had hit the post and we were really on the front foot at that point.

"So it was disappointing to lose a set-piece, we always work hard on being good from them.

"I think 3-0 was harsh on us and probably flattered Wolves a little bit, but that is what happens when you are chasing the game sometimes, you leave yourself a little bit more open and obviously they punished."

Sylvain Deslandes scrambled home the opener for Wolves just before the half hour, moments after Tomlinson had struck the post with a 25-yard drive.

Tomlinson and Mahoney both had chances before the break and, after an even second period, Donovan Wilson doubled Wolves' advantage on 70 minutes.

Rovers responded through Joe Rankin-Costello's effort but Wolves managed the game well in the closing stages as Wilson scampered clear for his second.

And he could have had a hat-trick in the closing stages but, having lobbed Rovers keeper Andy Fisher, saw his effort drop the wrong side of the post.
