SAM Gallagher says Blackburn Rovers believe they are a match for anyone in the Championship ahead of Saturday’s short trip to Preston North End.

Rovers go into the game at Deepdale unbeaten in three and buoyed by a win on their last away day when they toppled league leaders Newcastle United thanks to a Charlie Mulgrew winner.

The Magpies were going in search of a club record 10th consecutive win that day but having come away from St James’ Park with all three points Gallagher says there is a confidence in the camp.

“We are looking at every game as a chance to go and get three points,” the 21-year-old said.

“You can only have to look at Newcastle away. Near enough everyone was writing us off before the game but we turned up there and got the three points so if we can do it there we can do it anywhere.”

Rovers have enjoyed recent success at Deepdale, winning their last two visits including a 2-1 success in November 2015 thanks to a Jordan Pickford own goal and Jordan Rhodes penalty.

Gallagher will be hoping for his 16th league start of the season when Rovers face a Lilywhites side who have won just one of their last five games.

It has been a promising start to life in a Rovers shirt for the Southampton loanee who has already played 20 times for the club since arriving on a season-long deal in August.

While the club’s other three senior strikers have struggled for fitness issues at separate stages of the season, Gallagher has been a near ever-present at the head of the Rovers attack.

It is a far cry from his loan spell in the Championship last year with MK Dons where he played just 15 times, with only six of those coming as a starter, before he was recalled by Southampton in January.

But there have been no such worries for Gallagher this time around, with the youngster admitting that goals and games with Rovers have made his stay in East Lancashire a pleasant one so far.

“I’m really enjoying my time here,” he added.

“Game-time is the number one thing for me.

“To be getting plenty of game-time and some goals as well is perfect at the minute.”
