YOUNG Blackburn Rovers defender Ryan Nyambe wants to build on his first Football League start and become a fixture in Owen Coyle's squad.

The right back played the full 90 minutes in the absence of the suspended Ben Marshall as Rovers extended their unbeaten run to three Championship games with a 1-1 home draw with Huddersfield.

And Nyambe, who turned 19 on Sunday, admits he relished the experience and wants to keep his place in the side for the weekend derby trip to Preston North End (5.30pm).

"I want more of it and I want more experience," said the defender. "It was a much quicker than an Under-21s game and I just want more if it.

"It was hard work (to get into the first team picture) and that hard work is paying off.

"The boys are behind me getting me going and telling me to play with a smile on my face.

"The manager told me on Tuesday that I was in his thoughts to start as that got me prepared and then on Friday was when I found out I would be starting.

"I was a little bit nervous the night before but once I was on the pitch I was ok.

"It was a very good game for me, it was tough but I thought I did well and it was a good point for us in the end."

Nyambe admitted there was a hint of disappointment in the Rovers dressing room after the game that they hadn't managed to make it three wins on the spin after an improved second half display.

"They were good for 30 minutes but the last 15 minutes of the first half was good," he added. "In the second half we could have got a goal but just didn't take the chances.

"There is a little bit of disappointment because we wanted to carry on the form we have been in and get the three points but it was a very important point that we got."

And the teenager believes his substitute appearance against Brentford two weeks ago along with starts in the Checkatrade Trophy ad EFL Cup this season helped him settle into Championship football.

"It got me started, it got my confidence up and gave me some experience," added Nyambe who has been with Rovers since he was 13.

"First of all I am a defender and my first job is to defend. Going forward I still have a lot to learn and I will do that as I play with the first team."
