And former Middlesbrough and Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer was left impressed with Clarets skipper Tom Heaton after he made a series of fine stops to keep the Toffees at bay, particularly in the first half.

Schwarzer said: ""I thought Tom Heaton made some good saves and was very busy throughout the game. He is their leader, their captain.

"It is his second season in the Premier League and you can see that he has grown in confidence and now Burnley are reaping the rewards.

"It is important he does play well if they are to have any chance of staying in the league.

"He is very calm. He is probably the most improved goalkeeper in the Premier League and his experience with the national team has helped him a lot."

Schwarzer was joined in the studio on Saturday night by former Liverpool and Fulham midfielder Danny Murphy who signalled out Johan Berg Gudmundsson for praise.

The Iceland international had a hand in both Burnley's goals with a neat flick paving the way for the opener before his shot cannoned back off the crossbar and allowed Scott Arfield to strike the winner.

"They took him from Charlton and he was well thought of there," said Murphy of Gudmundsson.

"He has a good left foot. He didn't start the season but has earned his place recently.

"He plays on the right hand side and that is always difficult to mark when you have a left footer on the right.

"He was really positive and confident on the ball.

"He hasn't played at this level before but that hasn't phased him. He is always demanding the ball and although they were under the cosh for long periods he dug in as well and tried to get back and help his team, which they all have to do at Burnley.

"If you see someone who hasn't played at this level with that confidence then he is only going to get better."
