BEN Mee will be out to prove size doesn't matter when he comes up against in-form Everton hotshot Romelu Lukaku today (3pm).

Lukaku has nine goals in his last seven games for club and country and the Belgium striker towers four inches above Burnley central defender Mee.

He showed his pace and power with a devastating run and finish against Manchester City last weekend, but Mee is relishing the battle against one of the Premier League's more imposing centre forwards.

"He's a big lad and it's something I look forward to. I want to show him what I can do as well," the former Manchester City trainee said.

"People say I'm not the biggest but I want to prove that it doesn't matter. I can be aggressive in the air whether I'm big or not. It will be an interesting battle.

"I'm looking forward to playing up against him. He's obviously in form at the minute, he's one of the best strikers in the Premier League and it'll be a very good challenge for us. Me and Keano will look to do a job."

Mee made the permanent move from left-back to the centre of defence halfway through last season and coped with plenty of physical Championship strikers during Burnley's 23 game unbeaten league run.

The 27-year-old believes being both wily and aggressive can help him overcome any difference in height and physique to get the better of his opposite number.

And what he may lack in height he certainly makes up for in reading the game and his ability on the deck.

"It's about being clever and being aggressive," he said. "You've got to have both. You've got to try and be cleverer than your average centre-half.

"It helps sometimes but you can find ways of getting around it. A lot of it is to do with your feet these days."

Everton are sixth in the Premier League after a bright start to the season but Burnley will be hoping to cause on the top flight's bigger names more problems at Turf Moor once again, having already beaten their Merseyside rivals Everton and came agonisingly close to taking a point off Arsenal.

But Mee refutes suggestions the Clarets have raised their game for the big games this season.

"We've had a couple of good games regarding the Liverpool and Arsenal games," he said.

"We played well against Watford as well but we don't just want to rise for the big games because every game is a big occasion for us. We need to realise that and perform when the big teams aren't here.

"We need to do it against teams around us which will be the most important thing."

Burnley are still without a point away from home after last week's 3-1 defeat at Southampton, but Mee doesn't believe their away day woes are adding to the pressure to take points at Turf Moor.

"It's early days but we don't want to be putting pressure on ourselves like that," he said. "Every game is a big game, you never know what can happen, and we'll go in to it confident because our form has been good at home. There's no reason why we can't go on and put on a good performance."
