STRIKERS Anthony Stokes and Danny Graham could be back in the Blackburn Rovers squad for Saturday’s Championship clash at Derby County.

Stokes and Graham trained alongside their team-mates this morning after shrugging off their respective knee and ankle injuries.

And Rovers boss Owen Coyle said: “We’ll ascertain tomorrow as to whether they will be able to take their place in the squad but it was great to have them back on the field with the squad.”

Coyle’s squad has been boosted by the return of centre-back Gordon Greer after he was rested for Tuesday’s EFL Cup loss at Leeds United with the knock he sustained in last Saturday’s 4-2 league home victory over Rotherham United.

Coyle said: “We were precautionary with Gordon in the week, as we were with a number of them. That’s why we made nine changes so we had a group of them fresh for this Saturday.

“Gordon has been able to train today, there’s been no reaction, so he looks okay.”

Youngster Scott Wharton has joined fellow defenders Charlie Mulgrew, Elliott Ward and Adam Henley on the sidelines after he came off with a hamstring injury against Leeds.

But Coyle’s defensive concerns have eased with the arrival of free agent Wes Brown on a permanent deal until the end of the season.

The former Manchester United and England star has not played a competitive first-team match since January.

But Coyle would have no hesitation in throwing Brown, who has been training with Rovers since his release from Sunderland in the summer, into the fray at the iPro Stadium.

“He’s ready to play,” said Coyle, who is expected to name the same side which started against Rotherham.

“This is not someone who has trained for one week. He’s had four or five weeks and had four or five (under-23) games under his belt.

“His quality is not for debate. The important thing is Wes feeling 100 per cent physically and mentally good about himself, which he does.

“He’s as honest a person as you could come across so if he wasn’t he’d be the first to tell you.

“It’ll be great to have him in the group and involved in the 18. Whether he starts or whether he comes off the bench, we’ll sit and deliberate on that, as we have to be fair to the boys who played very well last week.”
