JUST before Wednesday turns into Thursday, it will be all over... slammed shut.

The transfer window keeps the business of football going over the long summer months, and then bizarrely rumbles on after the new season has started.

But it ends tomorrow - until January, at least - and then we can get on with the football itself.

Before then Burnley fans will want to see some more signings heading through the ‘In’ door at Turf Moor to help Sean Dyche’s men stay in the top flight for more than a season.

One is complete, with Patrick Bamford signing a season-long loan deal today.

The 22-year-old was a hit at Middlesbrough and did well at Derby, but he’s never made a senior appearance for parent club Chelsea and many will feel he still has something to prove in the Premier League after disappointing spells with Norwich and Crystal Palace.

He will, however, provide much-needed competition and cover for first-choice strike pair Sam Vokes and Andre Gray, Dyche has already secured the services of Belgium midfielder Steven Defour for a club record £7.5million, and also Icelandic international Johann Berg Gudmundsson, but after the departure of Joey Barton to Rangers earlier this summer he is still short in the middle of the park.

Brighton’s Dale Stephens has been a long-term target for the club and is said to be unsettled on the south coast. His addition would give the Claret squad a much better look going into key home games after the international break and the powers that be will be doing all they can to get the deal through before tomorrow night’s late deadline.

Derby County midfielder Jeff Hendrick was also in the sights of Dyche in previous months, but the interest seems to have cooled, while it would be great to see former Claret Jay Rodriguez back in the familiar shirt.

However, the England striker scored for Southampton against Sunderland on Saturday and with plenty of talent having already left St Mary’s, it now seems unlikely he will leave.

Hold on tight, tomorrow could be a bumpy ride, but hopefully Burnley will come out the other side looking stronger for the challenges ahead.
