ROVERS striker Danny Graham’s goalscoring run has been the highlight of pre-season so far, and he wants to bag more this weekend.

Owen Coyle’s side face two games in two days, entertaining Spanish second division outfit FC Girona at Ewood Park on Saturday before a trip to Notts County 24 hours later.

And while Graham failed to find the net at Blackpool last weekend - bringing an end to his perfect record that had seen him score against SV Ried, Morecambe and Rochdale - he was on target again in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Accrington on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old grabbed eight goals in 17 appearances for Rovers during his loan spell from Sunderland last season and he came close to grabbing a winner at Bloomfield Road on Saturday when he nodded just over from Elliott’s Bennett’s ring-wing cross.

Despite the pre-season games focusing mainly on fitness, Graham is keen to keep up his scoring habit to ensure he’s full of confidence ahead of the Championship opener against Norwich a week on Saturday.

“I’ve had good pre-season scoring runs before,” he told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“I had a very good run at Watford when I first went there.

“For a striker it’s always nice to score goals, no matter what the game is, and hopefully I can get my confidence flying going into the Norwich game.”

Graham’s best previous pre-season scoring run came when he was at Vicarage Road before the 2009-10 season.

He netted against Boreham Wood, Wealdstone, Spanish side UE Lleida and Italian outfit Parma, before going on to score 14 times for the Hornets in the Championship.

Graham has twice started alongside fellow new singing Anthony Stokes in a 4-4-2 formation - against Rochdale and Blackpool - but twice he’s played the second half as a loan striker in a 4-2-3-1 line-up.

However, he insists it doesn’t matter to him which formation he plays in and is only bothered about what’s good for the team as a whole.

“I don’t mind,” he said. “I’ve played in a 4-4-2 and I’ve played in a 4-5-1, so whatever is asked of me I’ll do, I won’t grumble and I’ll get on with it.

“The gaffer makes changes for a reason and if he thinks it’s beneficial for the team, so be it.

“It’s all about the team and progressing and building up relationships with the new boys, and I think that’s coming along nicely as well.

“So everything is going well and hopefully that an continue.”
