BLACKBURN Rovers new boy Jack Byrne said he was pleased to meet the fans at a special signing session organised by the club.

The 20-year-old midfielder, on loan for the season from Manchester City, joined fellow summer signings Liam Feeney and Anthony Stokes at the event at the Roverstore.

The trio autographed merchandise and posed for pictures with supporters who had queued up to meet their heroes.

Republic of Ireland Under-21 Byrne said he enjoyed the experience and knows how important they’ll be to Owen Coyle’s team this season.

He said: “It is important to meet the fans.

“We'll need them when we're down one goal with 10 minutes to go at home, when we're one goal up with 10 minutes to go - we'll always need them.

“Especially in and around Christmas time when the games are tough. I think we play six games in the space of two weeks, something mad like that.

“You'll definitely need fans when times get tough and at times like that.

“So whatever we can do to give a little bit back to the fans, because ultimately they're the ones the pay the wages at the end of the day.

“It was great to meet them today and we're grateful for the turnout.”
