CHAMPIONSHIP top scorer Andre Gray has warned Premier League defences there is much more to come from him.

Burnley’s record signing hit the ground running after his £6million move from Brentford, scoring 23 goals in a Clarets shirt and 25 overall to top the league’s goalscoring charts.

He was also named Championship player of the year at the Football League Awards, but the 24-year-old believes there is still more he can add to his game.

“I feel like I’ve still got a lot to learn and a lot to work on. I’m not the finished article, nowhere near,” he said.

“I’ve scored goals but there’s a lot of my play that I need to work on. Hopefully I can keep rising, keep getting better and do it in the Premier League.”

Gray had played just one full season in the Football League when he made the switch to Turf Moor last August, scoring 16 goals for Brentford.

The frontman dropped dropped into non-league to rebuild his career with Hinckley United and Luton Town after leaving Shrewsbury Town in 2010.

The prospect of Gray improving on his 2015-16 numbers is a tantalising prospect for Burnley fans, and he added: “They’ve seen me play well and they’ve seen me play badly.

“The last few games didn’t really go for me but it’s difficult when you’re fighting so hard, fighting to hold on and fighting to go up.

“It’s not as free-flowing football as you would like. That’s part of football and I’ve got a lot to learn. It’s good for me in my head knowing that there’s room for improvement.”

Gray was stifled late in the season as defences dropped deeper to combat his threat, and adapting to that is something he is keen to work on.

“That’s what I’ve got to learn - to know when I’ve got to drop in and change my game a little bit,” he added. “It’ll be more like that in the Premier League. I’ve got to learn that and there’s a lot more to come from me as well.”

The deal for Gray doubled Burnley’s transfer record but Gray has quickly settled in his new surroundings. It will be another step up next season as he takes on his first campaign in the top flight, but Gray is glad he has been able to repay the faith shown in him by Sean Dyche and Burnley so far.

“I came here with quite big expectations,” he added. “There were a lot of questions asked because the club paid so much money for me, but I hope I’ve repaid that faith and shown them what I can do.

“Hopefully I can keep getting better and better. As long as I keep improving then I’ll hopefully score goals in the Premier League.”
