WHAT do Blackburn Rovers owners Venky’s want from the club?

When they brought in Paul Lambert it looked like they wanted to go for it. Now the talk is about them wanting to cut the wage bill.

I understand they are losing a lot of money but they have to be careful not to cut too deeply.

Without a decent budget it’s going to be nigh on impossible for Rovers to push for promotion next season.

The Championship is the hardest league to get out of – and it’s only going to get harder because more and more teams are throwing money at it.

Another danger of cutting back is losing the good players you already have.

If they are ambitious they’re going to turn around and say, ‘I want to be at a football club that gives me the best chance of success’.

Again, I understand Rovers can no longer rely on parachute payments, but if you cut and cut eventually they will drift.

So why don’t Venky’s just cut their losses and get rid of the football club? See what they can get for it or just let it go.

But that doesn’t seem to be on the cards and now they have to concentrate on getting a new manager in as soon as possible.

I think Rovers will struggle to get another experienced manager like Paul Lambert.

Given it’s going to be a lower budget you’re looking at a manager who is working in the lower league.

Don’t get me wrong, there are some very good managers down there, but are they going to get the fans excited?

Paul’s appointment in November certainly excited the fans so I’m sad it’s not worked out the way he would have liked.

He’s a straight-talking person and when he says he wouldn’t have come to Rovers if he didn’t think he could get them up, then I can only assume he was given promises about being given money to spend in the summer.

That’s not going to happen and you can’t blame him for quitting. He’s ambitious and he doesn’t want to manage a football club that is in danger of going through the motions.
