TWO-GOAL hero Danny Graham has reiterated his desire to remain at Blackburn Rovers next season.

But the in-form striker, who bagged a brace in Saturday’s 2-2 home draw with Bristol City, has revealed talks over a permanent move have gone ‘quiet’.

Graham will leave Sam Allardyce’s Sunderland in the summer once his contract expires.

He has made ‘perfect fit’ Rovers his preferred destination after rediscovering his scoring touch at Ewood Park.

But the 30-year-old admits he is waiting to see if Paul Lambert gets the backing of the club’s owners Venky’s.

Graham, who has now grabbed six goals in 16 games for Rovers after a barren spell with Sunderland, said: “It’s gone a bit of quiet on that front.

“I think the gaffer is trying to find out himself from the owners so I can’t really comment on that.

“Would I like to stay? Then yes. But it’s out of my hands at the moment.

“Blackburn took a chance on me when I wasn’t playing a lot up at Sunderland and a lot of people questioned my fitness.

“I had a tough few years with not scoring many goals and that might have put people off.

“But as soon as I walked in the door the gaffer said he knew what I was about and he knew that I could score goals.

“From the first minute it seems to have been a perfect fit.”

Rovers boss Lambert wants to sign Graham on a permanent basis to lead a charge up the table next season.

But Venky’s have not given him the green light to press ahead with the proposals he has put to them.

Lambert said: “Danny is in the same realm of uncertainty as everybody else. Nobody knows what’s happening from top to bottom.

“If you want to put us on the same boat then it’s going to have be a pretty big boat to fit everyone on at the minute.

’We should have done loads by now. We should have done loads by January if the truth be known.

“If people tell me the club is happy to survive in the Championship then that’s not good enough.

“We need to get this uncertainty cleared up one way or another.”

Lambert has always maintained any decision over his own future will be dependent on the plans Venky’s have for the club.

And, speaking after the disappointing draw on Saturday, the Scot said: “I’ve got a rough idea of what’s going to happen.

“Hopefully it will become clear pretty soon. Two weeks to go. I know it’s frustrating. It’s frustrating for me and it’s frustrating for everybody.

“For me the most important people at any club are the players and the supporters. There’s a lot of uncertainty at the minute.”

Rovers are now mathematically safe from the drop after MK Dons lost 4-1 at home to Brentford to join Charlton Athletic and Bolton Wanderers in being relegated into League One.

But the players cut downbeat figures after their winless run stretched to six matches going into next Saturday’s trip to revived Rotherham United.

Graham, whose 80th-minute equaliser prevented Rovers from slumping to a fourth straight home league loss for the first time in 13 years, said: “I thought we were very sloppy and very slow to get into the game in the first 15 minutes.

“But after we scored we were on top and we could have had one or two more before half-time which would have killed the game.

“But that wasn’t the case and we’ve paid for that. I don’t think we should ever have drawn that game but the reality of it is we have.

“We need to go again next week.”
