A SAT-NAV may have stopped Doneil Henry getting lost again on his Blackburn Rovers return.

But, after recovering from the problem that cut short his first Rovers stay, Ewood Park was always his preferred destination.

The young West Ham United defender this week rejoined the club where he spent a brief but successful 10-day spell last season.

Henry helped Rovers to three straight league victories before a serious hamstring injury sustained in the last of those matches meant he needed surgery.

After going under the knife the 22-year-old was invited back to the club by then boss Gary Bowyer to watch the FA Cup quarter-final replay with Liverpool.

But, with Bowyer’s replacement Paul Lambert keen to bolster his backline, Henry now finds himself back at Rovers as a player after signing an initial loan deal lasting until January 3.

His second debut for the club could come tomorrow against the same opposition as in his first – Sheffield Wednesday. It is highly unlikely, though, that it will be as eventful.

Henry, famously, only met me up with his new team-mates three hours before kick-off after getting on the wrong train to Hillsborough.

But, after he got a call from new Rovers boss Lambert, there was no way he was going to make the same mistake again.

“No train journey this time, I drove, so everything went through the sat-nav,” laughed Henry, who produced a superb display as Bowyer’s side beat the Owls 2-1 that night.

“Before I said I wanted to go on loan I wanted to get fit because wherever I went I wanted to make sure I could give 100 per cent.

“I knew there were teams interested in me but I kind of waited because I knew if this one (Rovers) was possible it’d be a no-brainer to come back.

“From the day I came here to play Sheff, the guys were great, and what Gary did, he made me feel really part of the team, especially being around when we were playing Liverpool.

“To come back for the second leg of that match meant a lot; just to be around the guys. They made me feel really welcome.

“So for me it was easy decision to come back.”

Since his season-ending injury at Charlton Athletic Henry has made just one senior appearance – his first for West Ham against Romanian outfit Astra Giurgiu in the Europa League.

But the Canada international, who proved an instant favourite with Rovers supporters, insists he is in top condition.

“I knew it was bad straight away,” said Henry, thinking back to his Valley pain.

“I’d had hamstring injuries before but never that bad. So when I went and saw the specialist he said it needed operating on.

“But now my hamstring feels amazing. I feel good and stronger than ever right now.

“It was unfortunate that I got injured but everything happens for a reason. I’m back and I hope to continue to do good things for this club.”

Starting with another victory against the Owls?

Henry said: “If we can go out there and do the things we have been doing in training all week I feel we should have a good chance of taking three points.”
