BURNLEY Football Club supporters who attend every away game this season will travel 6,775 miles following the Clarets.

Burnley fans will spend more than 111 hours driving to and from away matches — an average round trip of 4 hours 50 minutes, according to new research.

The Clarets’ longest journey will be when they visit Brighton & Hove Albion in April — a 592-mile round trip by car, taking nearly nine hours.

Fans will not only cover thousands of miles in support of the Clarets but are set to spend thousands of pounds in the process.

Supporters who drive to every game will fork out an average of £924 on fuel and £220 on parking.

The research was conducted by JustPark, the parking app which lets football fans book cut-price parking spaces on local people’s driveways.

Dave Burnley has attended every Burnley game, home and away, for more than 40 years.

He said: “We have some of the most loyal fans in the game and our away support is terrific.

“However, the cost of tickets is now the biggest consideration for fans — the prices are getting ridiculous.

“It is sometimes £40 to buy a ticket but some of the more progressive clubs are a lot cheaper.

“I find it is easier to get discounts on train travel and accommodation online but no fan can alter the price of admission.

“It was cheaper in the Premier League as there are eight fewer games. Last season I spent about £1,000 less because of that.

“I support the Twenty’s Plenty campaign on ticket prices. That would be fair and reward the fans who make the game special.”

Altogether, Championship clubs and their supporters will travel a total of 155,000 miles this season.

Brighton fans have the greatest distance to travel at 8,758 miles, with Derby County followers getting the easiest ride with only 4,914 miles to cover.

Burnley’s shortest, and most eagerly awaited away game comes later this month when they travel the fourteen miles to Ewood Park.

They visit Blackburn Rovers on October 24, and as in previous clashes fans will travel aboard buses in convoy.
