DANIELLE Sheen scored a late winner as Blackburn Rovers Ladies won 1-0 at rivals Preston North End on Wednesday night to make it five matches unbeaten and as many straight clean sheets.

The only goal of the game arrived 15 minutes from time when Sheen’s shot found the roof of the net.

Rovers boss Gemma Donnelly said: “We were absolutely superb in the first half and played some of the best football I’ve seen from us this season.

“We were unlucky not to be ahead at half-time, but then we were disrupted by the enforced changes we had to make in the second half and we were less effective. However, the girls have got to be commended for their discipline and defensive duties, because we were on the back foot for a large proportion of the second half and another clean sheet demonstrates our resilience.

“We were missing several key players, including Amie Fleming, Vicky Westerman and Karen Boyle, but the ones tasked to do a job did it exceptionally well and the players really rallied and dug deep to get a result.”

Rovers welcome Huddersfield Town to AFC Darwen for a FA Women’s Premier League Cup first-round tie tomorrow (2pm).
