BLACKBURN Rovers have netted a seven-figure fee for Josh King – and are now waiting on a work permit in order to announce the signing of Kim Bo-Kyung.

Rovers will receive an initial £1.5m for King after they reached an agreement with Bournemouth over compensation for the striker.

But that figure could rise to closer to £2m if certain clauses are met.

King, 23, turned down a new and improved three-year contract at Rovers before signing for Premier League new boys Bournemouth in May.

The clubs seemed set to go to a tribunal to decide a fee for the Norway international after lengthy negotiations appeared to stagnate.

But talks resumed and Rovers, who last night ran the rule over former Liverpool and Newcastle United midfielder Danny Guthrie in their penultimate friendly of the summer at Bury, confirmed yesterday that they have agreed a deal with the Cherries.

King is one of 12 players with first-team experience to have exited Ewood Park since the end of last season.

Rovers boss Gary Bowyer began to bolster his small squad last week with the capture of Fode Koita and Sacha Petshi.

And Kim will join the French duo at the club providing he is granted a work permit.

It is understood that the South Korea international, who is a free agent after turning down a new longer-term contract at Wigan Athletic, has agreed personal terms and is training with Bowyer’s squad at Brockhall.

But the deal will not go through unless Kim, who watched the 1-1 draw at Bury from the Gigg Lane stands, obtains a work permit.

The 25-year-old has won 32 caps for his country and was part of the South Korea squads that competed at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups and won a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

But securing a work permit – required for all players from outside the EU – is not as straightforward as it once was.

The Football Association introduced new rules in May making it harder for players to secure a work permit.

It is part of the governing body’s attempt to reduce the number of non-EU players in English football.

Rovers expect to discover whether Kim, who helped Cardiff City win the Championship title in 2012-13, will be given a work permit later this week.

Of a potential deal for Kim, Bowyer said last night: "I think there are issues off the pitch with that one, so we'll have to wait and see if anything can change on that."

Bowyer, meanwhile, is looking at Guthrie as a possible addition.

The 28-year-old is a free agent following his release from Championship rivals in Reading in May.

Guthrie came off the bench at half-time in last night’s match at Bury.

Bowyer was without wantaway strikers Jordan Rhodes and Rudy Gestede as well as Chris Brown, Corry Evans, Chris Taylor and Darragh Lenihan through injury.

New boys Koita and Petshi, along with Simon Eastwood and Markus Olsson, were also absent from the Rovers squad.

Bowyer said of the 1-1 draw: "I thought it was another good workout for us, another 90 minutes under the belt.

"You could certainly see from the weekend we stepped it up a level, both in terms of our tempo with and without the ball, and our fitness levels, and the players are really looking sharp now."
