IT would be a disaster if Blackburn Rovers lost both Jordan Rhodes and Rudy Gestede, but it must be so difficult to decide what to do if they’re only going to sell one of them.

I don’t think it will be a surprise if at least one of them leaves in the next few weeks, with Middlesbrough keen on Rhodes and Gestede interesting Watford and Norwich.

It must be really tough for Rovers to figure out what to do though at this stage.

They’re in this situation because of the transfer embargo and because of everything that has happened at the club in the last few years. It has really come back to bite them now.

Losing both of them would give you a massive problem.

They scored 43 goals between them last season and that would be so hard to replace.

But if they decide to only sell one of them, which one do you sell?

Probably you’d sell the one that you get offered the most money for, which looks like it’s going to be Rhodes.

But then you also have to think about if you only sell one, what will the attitude of the one who stays be like?

I think Rhodes has always had a very good attitude and I think he would get his head down. With Gestede I’m not quite so sure.

That’s not to say he has a bad attitude, because people at the club have been saying in the press that he’s had a good attitude throughout all the speculation.

But he has come out in the press and openly said that he wants to go and play in the Premier League, which is something Rhodes hasn’t done, so that’s the difference between the two of them.

I’d imagine the club will be thinking very carefully about it.

To be honest I’m surprised that Rhodes isn’t playing in the Premier League by now, and if I was him I might be tempted to wait to see if a Premier League club does come in for him. It’s not like he’s a flash in the pan, he scores goals year in year out.

I think Charlie Austin is a good comparison with Rhodes, and Austin scored goals in the Premier League.

You can understand that Rovers want to get back the £8m they spent on him and also make a decent profit.

If Middlesbrough are able to agree a fee then Rhodes will have to weigh up if he thinks he’s better off at Blackburn or Middlesbrough.

Maybe he might see Blackburn as a club still in turmoil with the embargo and he might think that Middlesbrough have been spending money and it looks like they’re really going it for this season.

They only just missed out in the play-off final last season, losing to Norwich, and it looks like they’re really backing the manager with money.

I didn’t realise that Steve Agnew is his uncle and is Middlesbrough’s assistant manager - I played with him at Blackburn - so maybe that might be a factor too.

There’s no doubt about it though, Rhodes’ goals would be hard to replace.
