BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer says it is 'too early' to assess the extent of the injury star striker Jordan Rhodes sustained in today’s pre-season opener at Accrington Stanley.

Rhodes needed to be stretchered off after landing awkwardly on his ankle in the 28th minute and later left the ground on crutches.

Bowyer said: “He’s just got a knock on his ankle and it’s too early to assess it at this moment in time.

“We’ll see how he is in the morning and then we’ll go from there. He came off as a precaution.

“He’s in very good hands with the medical team we have at Brockhall.”

Lancashire Telegraph:

Rovers won 2-0 thanks to emphatic finishes either side of half-time from midfielder Dean Furman, who is on trial after turning down a new deal at Doncaster, and winger Craig Conway.

Stanley had the chance to equalise before Conway settled matters but Anthony Barry’s penalty was superbly saved by David Raya, who had given away the spot-kick.
