FREDRIK Ulvestad is determined to prove himself at Burnley after fulfilling a dream when he made his debut in English football on Saturday.

The Norwegian midfielder finally got the chance to make his first appearance for the Clarets, two months after joining the club, when he came on as a late substitute in the 0-0 draw with Stoke City.

Ulvestad hopes he can be involved again when Burnley play their final game of the season at Aston Villa on Sunday and says he is keen to do everything he can to be a success in England.

“I was very happy to make my debut and hopefully there will be more games,” said the 22-year-old, who penned a three-year contract with Burnley in March after a successful trial.

“We will see what the manager decides, it is all about just being ready when the chance is there.

“The Premier League is the best league in the world so it’s good to be here.

“English football is very big in Norway. It’s a dream for every player.

“I hope to make more appearances and hopefully I do well.

“I’m a hard working midfielder and I like to have the ball at my feet.

“I’m very motivated so I can’t wait for the next game and next season.

“Hopefully I can do well. That’s why I’m here.”

Ulvestad comes from a footballing family, with brothers Pal Erik, Dan Peter and Andreas all playing for clubs in Norway.

His father Rune is a former player with Molde and was at Turf Moor to see his son’s debut on Saturday.

Ulvestad was given a warm welcome by the Burnley supporters when he came on against Stoke and was thankful for the reception.

“Of course it meant a lot, the fans here are really great,” he said.

“My dad was over for the game and my girlfriend’s family, so they were here to see it too.

“I like it very much here, the people are very friendly and I enjoy it.

“It’s a very competitive league but I was just sitting on the bench and hoping to get my chance.”

Ulvestad joined Burnley after allowing his contract with hometown club Aalesund to expire, with the Norwegian season running from April to November.

He attracted interest from Swedish side Gothenburg and had a January trial with Hannover, who are currently battling relegation from the German Bundesliga and wanted to monitor the midfielder’s progress for a little longer before offering a deal.

Ulvestad’s debut for the Clarets came after relegation from the Premier League had already been confirmed but he hopes to help Burnley return to the top flight next season.

“Hopefully, we’ll see next season,” he said.

“The squad are very positive so we just have to focus on the next game and then next season.”

Ulvestad already has one Norway cap to his name, secured in a friendly against the United Arab Emirates in August.

For now he is focused only on getting more football under his belt for Burnley, but he does have ambitions to feature again for his country.

“Of course,” he said. “But first my main goal is to get regular playing time here.

“I’ll see after that.”
