THIS week may not be as hectic as last for AFC Darwen, but it is just as significant.

After playing four games in five days - winning three and drawing one to cement their place in the play-offs - the Salmoners continued their league campaign on Monday night, beating Holker Old Boys 2-0 at home.

Lee Turner and Ryan Steele scored twice in 10 second half minutes to maintain AFC Darwen’s status as the North West Counties First Division’s form team.

But attentions turn to the cup tomorrow night, with Nick Lloyd’s side taking on Atherton Collieries in the Reusch First Division Cup final at Bootle FC (kick-off 7.45pm).

Their final game of the league season is at home to Eccleshall on Saturday.

Meanwhile, in North West Counties League Premier Division, Nelson came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Runcorn Town on Monday night.

Paul Shanley and Curtis Cummins scored in the space of three minutes to give the home side an early advantage, but Matty O’Neill pulled a goal back right on half-time.

His brother, Joe, equalised in the 64th minute, and that’s the way it stayed.

Bacup and Rossendale Borough entertain Bootle tonight (kick-off 8pm).

In the Evo-Stik Premier Division, having already secured another year at that level, Ramsbottom United entertain Trafford tomorrow night (kick-off 7.45pm), before rounding their season off by hosting Matlock Town.

Meanwhile, the club’s end of season awards ceremony is now confirmed for Friday, May 1 at Ramsbottom Cricket Club.

Tickets are £10 and include food, the award presentation, comedy and music.

The night will reflect on what has been the Rams’ most disruptive season in 49 years, with management and the majority of the team leaving in January. But it ended on a happy note as new manager Jon Robinson and his new-look squad ensured survival last Saturday.

Fans have the opportunity to vote for their player of the season, with voting slips being handed out at this week’s three home games.
