THE big thing Blackburn Rovers have got to try and do in the summer is get their embargo lifted.

Otherwise, it’ll be more of the Del Boy scenario we’ve got now, and that’s trying to wheel and deal.

But to get rid of the embargo, realistically, we’re going to have to sell one or two.

And that probably means cashing in on Jordan Rhodes.

I think we’ve held on to him as long as we can and I’ve felt sorry for him at times this season because he’s not played as many games as he should have.

Because of that, I don’t think Rovers will get anywhere near the £12m they wanted for him at the start of this season.

And, as the Liverpool game proved, apart from possibly the three teams who get promoted from the Championship, how many Premier League sides would be prepared to take a gamble?

Don’t get me wrong, he’s a great goalscorer and I would love to hold on to him and try and make him and Rudy Gestede a proper partnership.

I’ve said it many times before, they are two goalscorers with different strengths who should be able to play together.

But to me it doesn’t look like their partnership has been worked on enough and, if both are to stay, they’ve got to be prepared to work even harder.

If that doesn’t pan out, and one or both have to go, then there is always life after losing your top players.

Burnley are a prime example of that. They were reluctant to get rid of Charlie Austin but they did, got good money for him and unleashed Sam Vokes and Danny Ings.

Whether Rovers would be able to do that remains to be seen but you shouldn’t forget what an attractive proposition the club is to players despite the negativity that has surrounded it in recent years.

The players love going to Brockhall every day, but the most important thing is what happens on the pitch.

And, unfortunately, it’s just not happened enough this season, and that’s why we’re talking about embargoes and not promotion.
