ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman hopes Tuesday’s win over League Two leaders Burton Albion will boost attendances – after the match was watched by a crowd of only 919.
The attendance was the second gate of below 1,000 at the Store First Stadium this season, after 947 watched Stanley’s midweek game with Hartlepool in October.

It was the lowest crowd in the Football League for 13 years but the attendance of 849 for Wimbledon versus Rotherham in 2002 was due to a boycott, while Doncaster were watched by 739 against Barnet in 1998 because of a disastrous season that saw them finish bottom of the Football League by some distance.
Stanley by contrast are 15th in League Two and were facing the league leaders. There were no particularly unusual reasons why the attendance was so low, although a clash with Blackburn Rovers’ home game against Norwich City and Manchester City versus Barcelona probably did not help.
Coleman said: “The fans who came and supported us were fantastic, we just wish there were more of them.”
Asked if the crowd was the only low point of the 1-0 win over Burton, he said: “Not for me because we won.
“The people who came and paid their hard earned money were treated to a really hard working and spirited performance.”
