SCOTT Arfield is back in contention for a return to the Clarets starting line-up tomorrow, but they will make a late decision on the fitness of Michael Duff.

Arfield missed last week’s win at the Britannia Stadium after picking up a knock in training, but he could be in line for a recalled for the Turf Moor clash with Aston Villa.

However, 36-year-old Duff, who was withdrawn 15 minutes from time at the Britannia with a tight calf, will be given time to prove his fitness.

“Scott Arfield will come back into contention after getting a knock last week which was nothing too major,” said Burnley boss Sean Dyche.

“Duffo’s got a question mark so we’ll see how he goes over the next 24 hours.”

Sam Vokes came through 45 minutes for the reserves this week, but Dyche said he won’t be rushed back.

“To get him on the grass in a game is fantastic,” he said, “he looked nice and sharp.

“Now it’s about progressing from that, building his physical power and his stamina in order to play for longer.”

“He’s been out there with us training. Each step gives you a boost. He’s been in full training for a couple of weeks which is a step forward, then he has half a reserve game which is another step forward, but will build that up slowly now.

“There’ll be no pressure from our point of view, we want to make sure he’s almost over-fit if there is such a thing.”
