SOPHIE Flynn scored a hat-trick as Blackburn Rovers Ladies cruised into the last four of the Lancashire FA Women’s Challenge Cup courtesy of a 10-0 home win over Bury on Sunday.

Karen Boyle, Katie Anderton and Amie Fleming also bagged braces as Gemma Donnelly’s side booked a semi-final showdown with arch rivals Preston North End.

Rovers raced into a four-goal lead inside the first 15 minutes and never looked back.

Boyle got the ball rolling with the opener on eight minutes before Flynn fired home her first of the afternoon shortly after.

Quickfire Boyle then scored her second moments later before Anderton scored her first and Rovers’ fourth.

A serious knee injury to Sophia Riccio then disrupted Rovers’ rhythm as Bury held out until the break.

But the hosts regained control after the interval with Anderton adding a fifth with a clever lob over the Shakers goalkeeper before Flynn netted a quickfire double to complete her treble.

Fleming fired home the eighth and Danielle Sheen scored the ninth before the Rovers captain completed the rout, taking the scoreline into double figures, with a screamer late on.

Rovers will now take on Preston, the team who beat them in last year’s final, for a place in the 2015 showpiece.

Rovers manager Gemma Donnelly said: “It was a typical county cup tie against lower league opposition but I’ve got to give Bury credit.

“It was a pleasing run-out from our point of view and we’re delighted to progress through to the semi-finals, where we will meet Preston, who beat us in the final last year.

“However, we are disappointed to pick up an injury, which will rule Sophia out for some time.

“The players were clinical and retained possession well, amidst an afternoon of interruptions.

“We were pleased not to concede and to have a multitude of names on the scoresheet.

“It wasn’t ideal preparation going into a Premier League Cup tie away to Sheffield on Sunday so I am looking forward to a purposeful week of training ahead of that game.”

The last-four clash with Preston will take place at the WEC Group Anchor Ground, the home of AFC Darwen, on Sunday, January 18.

Morecambe will host Chorley in the other semi-final.
