THE wait for the first win of the season goes on and it’s starting to get a bit desperate now.

Winning that first game is going to be so important. It’s not going to be easy against Everton, they seem to have hit form at the right time, and then after that it is Arsenal, so it’s a difficult couple of weeks, but you’ve just got to give it your best shot.

That first win will breed confidence right through the side. It will be a huge boost when it does arrive and you wouldn’t be surprised if another follows quite quickly. They just need to start taking those chances and the points will start to come.

I thought they may have beaten West Ham, but it wasn’t to be. Home form is going to be crucial this season, they have to be beating the likes of Sunderland and West Ham at home more often than not, and to take just one point from those two games is disappointing.

When teams come to Turf Moor we need to be making life difficult for them and taking the three points, they are plenty of teams that are beatable at home and we need to start doing that if we’re going to have a chance this season.

They could have been three or four up by half time on Saturday, I counted six decent half chances and you’ve got be sticking some of those away, you want to be putting around 50 per cent of those in the back of the net.

After half time they came out a different side, they had clearly had a rollicking at half time and within ten minutes they had scored two goals. In the second half they had three chances and they scored three goals, that just shows the level we are at now and the importance of taking those chances when they come along.

Danny Ings returned on Saturday and he looked quite sharp. I was a bit disappointed he didn’t score, he had a couple of half chances, and if some of the other chances had fallen to him he may have put one or two away, but sometimes the chances fall to the wrong person in the box.

A few weeks ago the defence looked very solid but they’ve conceded nine goals in three games now, which is a bit of a worry.

You can’t be conceding three goals a game because you’ll never get a win. To concede three headers against West Ham was disappointing. I’m sure they will be working hard on the training ground to try and rectify that, and hopefully they will get that solid shape back sooner rather than later.
