IN-FORM Blackburn Rovers Ladies stormed into in the second round of the FA Women’s Premier League Cup courtesy of a convincing 7-0 victory at Forest Green Rovers.

Rampant Rovers raced into an early lead in Sunday’s clash and never looked back as they stretched their unbeaten run in all competitions to nine games in emphatic and impressive fashion.

The scoring was opened on four minutes when Lynda Shepherd won possession in midfield and played a one-two with Katie Anderton before guiding the ball into the bottom corner.

The advantage was doubled on the quarter-hour mark, Danielle Sheen smashing home after debutant Kaz Boyle had cut the ball back from the byline, before Amie Fleming added Rovers’ third midway through the first half with a sweetly struck shot from distance.

Number four followed before the break when Sheen grabbed her second goal of the game.

The one-way traffic continued after the restart with Anderton heading home Mille Shaw’s cross from the right on 55 minutes.

Jess Holbrook got in on the act 15 minutes later, with a superb solo effort, before substitute Millie Chandarana completed the rout in style late on with an unstoppable 30-yard strike into the top corner.

Rovers assistant manager Amanda Goodwin said: “Their manager commented after the game that they’d been given a ‘footballing lesson’ and we really did.

“We were playing against a team who were top of their league, albeit a division below, so we knew we had to be professional and get the job done.

“We did that and I thought that some of the football we played was outstanding.”
