GEORGE Boyd believes Burnley can follow his old club Hull City’s example by using clean sheets as a base to secure Premier League survival.

The Clarets are still waiting for their first win in the top flight after a third successive goalless draw on Saturday, this time at home to Sunderland.

Boyd made his home debut in the game after arriving from Hull for £3m on September 1, and believes Burnley are not far off claiming victories.

The 28-year-old was part of the Hull squad that stayed up under Bruce last season in their first season in the Premier League.

“It’s so similar,” he said of Burnley’s ethos, instilled by boss Sean Dyche.

“Steve Bruce was always building on the defence and you build forward.

“If you keep clean sheets you’ll win games, so it’s very similar, and a great team spirit very similar to Hull.

“We’ve got a great base, three clean sheets for us is great and gives us something to build on, we just need that goal.

“We played well again, like at Palace last week.

"We were knocking on the door and it's eventually going to come.

"We created numerous chances and we just need it to come off someone's backside and go in. We'll take ugly 1-0s all day.

"The boys are playing so well and have taken to this stage easily.

"Eventually our luck will change and we'll get that goal."

Boyd admitted a week ago that he was still building up match fitness after not featuring regularly at Hull before his move to Turf Moor.

He played for 90 minutes on Saturday before being replaced in injury time by Steven Reid.

"I got cramp at 59 minutes last week, it was 71 minutes this week so I'm getting there!" he laughed.

"I'm building that fitness up, it's just great to be playing week in week out at this level.

"I haven't come to be playing in the Championship next season, I've come to stay in the Premier League.

"It's where everyone wants to be."
