David Eyres: Burnley have moved on from Bryson U-turn

Lancashire Telegraph: Craig Bryson Craig Bryson

STEVE McClaren thought that he had lost Craig Bryson to Burnley. I'm sure Sean Dyche thought he had him in the bag just as much too.

It is an incredible change of heart by the Scotland international, considering that he is passing up the opportunity of Premier League football.

You wonder whether he was playing one off against the other for a better deal, or whether he genuinely just did have second thoughts.

He is quoted as saying ‘the grass isn't always greener’. But if I was presented with the opportunity to play at the top level now I know what I would do.

It’s quite possible that Derby County could be back in the Premier League themselves in the next year or two. The club is geared up with the support and financial backing. But there are no guarantees. Burnley are there!

I’m sure most players would jump at the chance. We are all different though. Bryson has made his decision and Burnley have to move on, which they already have.

Having missed out on one man it was good to see the Marvin Sordell deal get over the line after a delay in proceedings.

If Troy Deeney could be added to the mix too then that is some serious firepower when you consider the strikers already at the club.

Hopefully the Clarets will not have been put off by having an offer turned down.

Doubling the £3million record transfer fee paid for Steven Fletcher is the territory they are in now. Money is there to be spent and while it needs to be spent wisely and done the right way, if the club are looking to stay in the division they have to take some financial gambles.

Looking at the cream of the Championship is the right market to be shopping in, as well as Premier League free agents.

Matt Taylor falls into that category and he is a good addition to the squad.

He has been there and done it at that level and hopefully that kind of experience will pay off and rub off among a group of young players who have not really played in the Premier League and are going to be tested to the full limit next season.

Michael Kightly should be able to show them the way too after completing his move from Stoke.

It is a signing we all expected and we have seen what he is capable of.

Matt Gilks is another good addition.

He is a good keeper, and a good bloke to boot. He’s someone I have got to know quite well since Gary Parkinson's illness. They know each other from Blackpool and he has visited Gary on a number of occasions when I've been there.

The clue is here David:

"The club is geared up with the support and financial backing."

Derby have these, Bumley have neither.
