RUBEN Rochina is facing an uncertain future as Blackburn Rovers continue their attempts to reduce their wage bill this summer.

Rochina recently completed a loan spell back in his homeland with Rayo Vallecano and it is understood that Rovers are ready to let the Spaniard leave if they receive a suitable offer.

Vallecano had the option to make the move permanent but they have so far made no bid, despite Rochina starting 15 matches for the La Liga side after moving to the Madrid club in January.

The 23-year-old must now wait to see what interest develops over the summer, leaving him in limbo.

The forward still has a year left on his Rovers contract and boss Gary Bowyer would welcome him back into his squad next season if there are no takers.

But the club are under pressure to cut costs as they attempt to fall in line with the incoming Financial Fair Play regulations, and Bowyer is also keen to free up funds to strengthen elsewhere.

A right back and centre back are his priorities, together with a striker to provide competition for Jordan Rhodes and Rudy Gestede.

An exit for Rochina would be another salary off the club’s books – for a player signed during Rovers’ Premier League days – and they are not expected to stand in his way if interest arises.

Rochina is away on holiday in New York after helping Vallecano climb away from relegation trouble in La Liga in the closing stages of the 2013/14 season.

Rayo, operating on one of the lowest budgets in the Spanish top flight, sat 19th in the table when Rochina arrived in January but finished in 12th place – four points clear of the relegation zone.

Rochina netted crucial goals in victories over Real Sociedad, Celta Vigo and Real Betis.

A year earlier the Spaniard had a loan spell with Real Zaragoza but started only five games as they were relegated from La Liga.

He then returned to Rovers and started their opening game of the season at Derby, only to dislocated his shoulder during the match.

On his return from injury he made just one start, at home to Birmingham City, before being loaned out to Vallecano.

Rovers midfielder Corry Evans featured for 89 minutes as Northern Ireland were beaten 2-0 in Chile in their final match of their tour in South America.

Substitutes Eduardo Vargas and Mauricio Pinilla scored late on for Chile in the friendly in Valparaiso.

Accrington Stanley’s James Gray did not feature in the game, as he awaits his full international debut.
