JASON Shackell wants Burnley to go into the Premier League with the nucleus of their promotion squad intact.

The Clarets have already set to work on preparing for their return to the top flight by securing full backs Kieran Trippier and Danny Lafferty on new three-year deals.

Offers have also been made to Michael Duff, Junior Stanislas and Luke O’Neill, who were all out of contract this summer.

But while manager Sean Dyche is looking for new recruits to bulk up and improve the squad after releasing Brian Stock, David Edgar, Keith Treacy and third choice goalkeeper Nick Liversedge, captain Shackell hopes to go into the Premier League with the rest of the players who helped to get them there, including top scorer Danny Ings.

There has been speculation about the future of Burnley’s star striker, with a number of Premier League clubs linked to the 21-year-old.

But Shackell feels keeping the core of their runners-up squad together will help to take momentum into next season.

“I’d like to think we’d keep the bulk of the squad,” said the captain, who was an ever-present in Burnley’s promotion campaign.

“That’s the gaffer and the board’s decision, but I’d like to think that we’ll keep a lot of the lads and try to bolster a bit and go from there.”

Shackell goes into the final year of the contract he signed under Eddie Howe two summers ago.

Promotion was on his long-term agenda at the time and he is delighted it has come to fruition under Dyche.

“I was hoping this would be the ultimate dream, getting to the Premier League with Burnley and it’s come to fruition just a couple of years later,” said Shackell.

“It’s been a great move and I’m loving my life at Burnley.”

Seriously lad, you need help, you really do. I knew our success coinciding with Rovers failure was going to be hard for you boys to take, but I didn't think that it would create this all consuming bitterness and twisted envy, and in your case it's clearly taken over your life with a good helping of schizophrenia thrown in as well. Instead of sitting there unblinking in front of your pc waiting for the next Burnley article to arrive, why don't you go for a walk in the park or something, and have a few hours off from yourself, I'm sure it'll help.

Its all over facebook twitter and other social media sites, Even no nay never there are murmurings, I'm just putting it out here thats all. Its a rumour, so, until they both come out, wearing the shirt, categorically stating, that they are happy to be staying at Burnley for the coming season, then its up in the air isn't it?
The fact you don't like it is of no consequence. Its modern day Football, You are successful and bigger teams want your jewels.

no offence stevieclaret - but look on the rovers pages - one contributor (maybe more with multiple sign-ins) - 16 postings throughout the day on one story alone.

i do visit burnley site and put a contribution in about once a month (possibly twice) i try to be constructive as i dont really have any axe to grind against your mob - but take a look on rovers pages - it is polluted with burnley supporters.....they are not engaging in banter and just stifle any proper discussion - they dont even talk about the article. they are scum and i am afraid - that's why some of our lot are on your pages.

Good post. There is some drivel posted on other sites such as this around the country but it seems more bitter, petty-minded and personal between these two sides of the same coin here.

The East Lancs bicker-fest, I call it. Very unseemly but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to actually discover that the most prolific anti-Burnley poster on here turns out to be one and the same most prolific anti-Blackburn poster on their pages.
