Claret Vokes set for more surgery

Lancashire Telegraph: Sam Vokes Sam Vokes

PLAYER of the year Sam Vokes is facing further surgery to repair damage to his shoulder, after it emerged the striker suffered a dislocation in early November.

The Burnley striker suffered the injury in the away game with Millwall, in which he scored in a 2-2 draw.

Physio Ally Beattie managed to put the shoulder back in its socket quickly. And not only was Vokes able to carry on in the game but he remained an ever-present up until having his season cut short by suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate knee ligament early in the game at home to Leicester City at the end of March.

Wales international Vokes must wait until he no longer requires the use of crutches before he can have the operation to repair minor tissue damage.

The procedure is likely to take place in the next fortnight, and a six to eight-week recovery period will coincide with his rehabilitation from knee surgery.

But the striker is not viewing his latest surgery as a setback. Instead he is considering himself fortunate that he has the summer months to rest and recuperate.

“It could have happened during the season and meant missing four months of it,” said Vokes.

“Instead it’s three months before another ball is kicked in a league situation.

MORE TOP STORIES:

“I’ll have the operation to get it (shoulder) right. I was able to play with it – being the upper body it is a lot easier than the lower limbs.

“And it wasn’t an extreme one, that’s why I carried on.

“It’s all come at once but it’s something that’s needed to be done and won’t affect me with my knee at all.”

Vokes secured a player of the year double at the end of season awards, first being the overall winner at the supporters’ clubs’ event, then pipping strike partner Danny Ings to the main prize at the club’s official presentation for a season in which he scored 21 goals – 20 in the Championship to help fire the Clarets into the Premier League.

Ings picked up the players’ player of the year award.

“I voted for him and he voted for me. Strikers’ union,” said Vokes. “He’s been fantastic all year and got some great and important goals for us.”

Although no timescale has been put on Vokes’ return to action Burnley will start the Premier League season without the 24-year-old.

As a result they are on the lookout for attacking reinforcements and are understood to be keeping tabs on Dwight Gayle.

Crystal Palace are ready to offload the striker just 12 months after signing him from Peterborough United for £4.5million cash, plus lucrative add-ons.

Palace were thought to be prepared to consider offers around the £3m mark, but Gayle’s double from the bench in Monday night’s dramatic late draw with Liverpool is expected to have increased that valuation nearer their initial £4.5m up front payment.

Whenever Burnley were even in the top 6 of the Championship this season, pundits lauded the achievement of Dyche with such limited resources. Translated this means it’s a p!ss pot of a club with no support and was going well beyond it’s means to even do well in the Championship. The club can therefore only now expect to do worse.

Burnley will rediscover their level, which is well acknowledged to be at best the Championship, more likely below. Your ramblings are becoming even more inane on a daily basis.

On a scale of 1 to 10 how much has Burnley's promotion hurt you?

Dear TurfMoorTom,

On a scale of 1 to foreskin removal with rusty pliers, how eye-watering was it to see us achieve automatic promotion?

How long did you cry for in the foetal position in your one-bed Shadsworth flea-pit before finally composing yourself long enough to resume your desperate and laughable attempts at playing down a historic, record-breaking, dominate season of triumph and joy for Burnley FC?

And finally, answer honestly, how embarrassed are you that every single one of your predictions has gone the opposite way?

It can't be much fun to be you these days. I bet you feel like a bit of a wally.

"Palace were thought to be prepared to consider offers around the £3m mark, but Gayle’s double from the bench in Monday night’s dramatic late draw with Liverpool is expected to have increased that valuation nearer their initial £4.5m up front payment." That was the relevance - read the article, not just the title. Future turmoil beckons dear boy.

I reckon you just might stay up next season. Though if so Dyche will jump ship soon after if he has any sense and either way the season won't be pretty. What will follow thereafter will be carnage. Again.

I haven't made any predictions thus far so not sure what you're on about. This one on the other hand I won't get any satisfaction from as it's a certainty, just a matter of time. Clubs like ours can't survive long in the Prem and when they fall it can break a club.

Believe it or not I actually want Rovers to play Burnley regularly as good Championship teams.

Good to see that the two problems are being tackled simultaneously. We should have him early October apparently.

The football agents rumour mill is pumping away here in Manchester. Its generally thought that Dyche has about £16m to play with over the Summer and January '15 transfer windows.

Another hot rumour is that Brendan Flood has been tasked by the board to restart the work with the architects who drew up the plans for rebuild of Turf Moor. They can now access one of the A52 European Improvement Grants - and they are considering a ground-up brand new development of a stadium at Crow Wood.

We wait and see.

My, you are a bitter one aren't you.

It must have been a pretty miserable upbringing for you.. forced into a Rovers kit from an early age against your will by that man you now know was not your father, leathered black and blue at regular intervals for no apparent reason after he'd taken to the bottle and decided you were fair game, the harrowing cries of your mother from above stairs as a procession of random uncouth gentlemen paid her visits during the day, and the shame of being the outcast at Shadsworth primary due to your club foot, lice and body odour issues.

I can see you've been bottling up a lot of anger and given your obvious lack of social skills said anger is creeping out onto these pages which now represent your only contact with the outside world.

It's ok. We're all friends here. We wont judge you.

Very interesting not heard about this. But I am not surprised this club just goes up and up. Whereas …… the Venky Chicken Run Farming Society well ….. what to say. £100,000,000.00 in debt (that’s one hundred million for the cluck cluckers) it’s coming to a very sad end - sad for them.

If I remember correctly this boy Gale ripped Rovers apart last season at Ewood playing for Peterborough United. He scored all the gaols in a 0-3 defeat for Rovers.
