There will be no let up from my Clarets, says Dyche

Lancashire Telegraph: Sean Dyche Sean Dyche

SEAN Dyche insists there will be no let-up in Burnley’s season, even though their Premier League place is guaranteed.

For the Clarets boss not only wants to retain a two points per game average from their final two games, but also feels a sense of responsibility in the play-off shake-up.

Both tomorrow’s opponents Ipswich and Reading, who they face on the final day, can finish in the top six.

Dyche says they owe it to all top six challengers to put in a performance, but equally to themselves to sign off an already successful season in style.

“The destination is complete so I’m looking forward to the marvel of having two fantastic games coming up where the players can relax and play, and just play because they love playing.

“They can enjoy the occasion but still with the winning mentality,” said the Burnley boss.

“There are words we’ve used a lot, relentless, limitless. It’s just a mindset. I think it’s ground into them.

“They will be going hard. I’ve already told them ‘make no mistake, the whistle blows and we are ready to go’.

“We want maximum points out of the next two games and to keep our integrity for the division because they are important games and I would like to think if the shoe was on the other foot that teams were going hard to make sure they gave performances, so we will certainly be doing that.

“My expectation of them is that they are ready to go when the whistle blows.

“We have been all season, I don’t see why we shouldn’t be on Saturday, and the following Saturday.”

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Tom Heaton says praise should be poured on manager Dyche for guiding Burnley back to the Premier League.

Ahead of their final home game of the season against Ipswich, Heaton insists success is all down to Dyche for getting a small squad in peak condition and top form.

“He sets the standard, the expectation, the format, what he wants. He simplifies it for players,” said the stopper.

“We knew from pre-season there was something special and we managed to keep it all going.

“I think once you get the physical conditioning that we’ve got, that we certainly had in pre-season – we’ve kept that going, and once you apply that physical conditioning to the game it simplifies things.

“We know we’ve got quality so if you can put the work ethic and the application there, which we’ve done in every game this season, you're always going to give yourself a chance, especially in the Championship where fine margins make a big difference. It’s been superb.”

Heaton added: “He’s fantastic to play for and he should be very proud.

“It’s a brilliant achievement, just incredible really.

“It’s absolutely top drawer. There are some great sides in the Championship this year and we're one of them.

“We’re there on merit and there’s certainly a lot of pride in that.”

And just when was the last time you did anything on merit?

It must be well before you were bankrolled by a deluded old man and bought a few years of success.

If you want to see genuine achievement on merit then you're on the right page!

"we don,t need no favours from the likes of you,..." is a double negative so you are asking Burnley Football club for 'favours'
Make your mind up please - if I had been born and brought up a Rovers fan I would have wanedt to do it on merit too, just like the Clarets have done...............

Go buy it, that's what you specialise in. You've done nothing by stand-alone merit since 1928. Bloody joke.

Despite attitudes from cavemen like this, I'd like to see Burnley win their two games, and give Rovers every chance of getting into the play -off's. In fairness, I think their lack of consistency precludes any realistic chances of promotion, as it would mean winning at least 4 out of 5 games, something they've struggled to do all season. But, as pointed out in the article, it's important Burnley carry on playing and show the integrity they've shown all season.

Blackburn can't get a play off position on their own merit. That time has passed them by. Brighton, Reading, Forest AND Ipswich all must lose points for Rovers to claim that sixth spot. All you can do is pray Burnley beats Ipswich and Reading. You gotta hate that.
