JASON Lowe has urged his Blackburn Rovers team-mates to keep a lid on their play-off expectations now they have clawed their way back into the race for the top six.

Revitalised Rovers head to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday on the back of a seven-match unbeaten run which has moved them within four points of Reading.

The last time they were that close to the sixth-placed Royals was when they won the Madejski Stadium encounter between the sides in February.

After that 1-0 win Rovers’ players were quick to talk up their chances of making the play-offs. But Lowe believes it would be a big mistake to get ahead of themselves.

“We’ve got to keep a lid on it,” said Lowe. We know what we have to do but it’s just about focusing on the next game and the next three points.

“That’s all we can do. If we take maximum points, then then great, then it’s on to the next one.

“If you look too far ahead it’s dangerous because you don’t focus on the next game and the next task – and that’s the most important one.

“You take your foot off the gas if you look too far ahead so we just have to take the confidence from the win over QPR and go from there.”

Victory at Hillsborough on Saturday would make it three straight league victories for Rovers for the first time in a single season since January 2008.

Lowe, who came through the club’s youth set-up, is fully aware of the statistic and is desperate to banish it to the history books.

The 22-year-old: “Am I aware of it? Absolutely as I’ve been here for a while.

“If we can string three wins together, then great, but it’s all about one game at a time and putting everything into each of them.”

Lowe was pleased with his return to the side in the midweek win over QPR after missing the previous five matches with an ankle injury.

The midfielder added: “After three weeks out I was thrust back into it but I wouldn’t want it any other way.

“But it’s not about me, it’s about the team and I thought it was a great team performance from start to finish.”
