BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche has told his players to “go and deliver” as they are faced with the chance to take top spot on Saturday.

With leaders Leicester City drawing their last two games while the Clarets have taken maximum points – following up Saturday’s 3-0 win at Charlton with a 2-0 home win over Doncaster a Rovers on Tuesday – the gap to first place has shrunk to three points ahead of this weekend’s top two clash.

Second placed Burnley would have to win by two clear goals to topple the leaders on goal difference.

But while Dyche does not wish to get sidetracked by permutations, after six wins from seven on a 16-game unbeaten streak he wants his side to do what it takes to keep their run going.

“It’s a chance to deliver another performance. That’s how I look at it,” said the Burnley manager.

“It’s been a key to our feel within the group all season – a chance to go and deliver again, when the whistle blows we’re ready.

“We’ve been ready for every game this season, it's important we’re ready again on Saturday.”

Doncaster boss Paul Dickov is, like many, convinced the Clarets will be playing Premier League football again next season.

But while mathematics dictate their fate, Dyche is refusing to take anything for granted.

“They’re kind words from Paul but the reality is we’ve had a focus on every game as it comes all season. Old cliche or not that’s the mantra to the players.

“I reminded them straight after the game, it was a great result but the (next) game’s going to come around quickly.

“Enjoy the win, but the day after we already start refocusing. Rest easy, get your fluid and your food in because on Thursday (today) we’re ready to go again to the next game.”

Meanwhile, Burnley will be without influential midfielder Dean Marney after he picked up his 10th booking in midweek. Punishment starts immediately and means suspension from the next two games.

But Dyche remains as pragmatic as ever. That’s the reality. I think there have been some blows recently haven’t there? Everyone keeps saying. But the machine keeps rolling and that’s what I'm looking for it to do,” he said.

“It’s a great opportunity for others to step in and do well.

“I don’t overthink it, it’s just the reality of having a small squad and what happens.”

I'm watching the gap between us and qpr, not us and Leicester. Whatever you like watching, so long as the players keep their eyes on the 3 points we will all be happy.
Leicester's game in hand is played against Wigan on Tuesday if that's your interest.

I think it could be funny if we beat Leicester by one goal on Saturday and stay second on goal difference, then sit back and watch Wigan beat them on Tuesday and go top without even playing!

There is no doubt that the cash prize and prestige of promotion is fantastic, but being number one in the Championship would be just amazing. Topping ALL 24 teams with a small squad and a limited budget makes for one great story and one great season. GO CLARETS!

We knew that marney was 1 foul away from a 2 game ban. It was going to come because be plays with his heart on his sleeve. I can't believe we haven't moved for a midfielder as cover for jones n marney with this in mind. When we were without marney in late nov at Huddersfield we were overrun n it should av been worse than 2 - 1.

I only hope trips is fit n Baird slips into midfield cos Edgar is not a midfielder. Square pegs in round holes is not what is required at this stage. I trust dyche n his judgement but I honestly believe this is a mistake!

I thought that is one of the reasons for bringing in Baird. Can play defence and midfield. Has done an excellent job covering tripps and can now cover for deano with tripps back on Saturday. I can't see where you find a mistake, it all seems to be working out perfectly to me.

Because dyche has said trips will prob not be fit! Edgar in midfield or fullback is not perfect for me. I trust dyche and hope he has something up his sleeve...
