Burnley striker Ings named as Championship player of year

Lancashire Telegraph: Danny Ings Danny Ings

BURNLEY striker Danny Ings has been announced as the Championship player of the year at tonight's Football League awards.

Ings fended off competition from Leicester City's Danny Drinkwater and Leeds United's Ross McCormack to win the award, which he received in person at a ceremony at the Brewery in London.

The forward missed Burnley's 2-1 win over Leeds yesterday because of an ankle injury and confirmed during the awards that he would be seeing a specialist on Wednesday.

Ings has scored 25 times for Burnley this season to help them to second in the table, and he has also netted twice for the England under 21 team.

The award was voted for by the managers of the 24 clubs in the Championship.

Receiving the honour, Ings said: "It's fantastic to see that the managers highly rate you, obviously coming up against them and giving them problems in games and taking that into Burnley's season, it's been fantastic."

Former Accrington Stanley winger Gary Roberts, now with Chesterfield, was named as the League Two player of the year.

Ex-Burnley midfielder Kevin McDonald, of Wolves, missed out on the League One award to Brentford's Adam Forshaw.

well done danny, a fully deserved award. You and the entire squad have made others sit up and notice a small town northern team, and given claret fans a season to enjoy, i hope news is good regarding injury, lets push on and nail down that automatic promotion spot

Well done Danny - THE best player in the Championship.

the ironic thing is, with Vokes, Arfield and Trippier's contribution this season, Ings isn't even guaranteed to walk the Burnley player of the season awards.

That's how good we have been this season!

Yes, being named the Championship PLAYER OF THE YEAR is always going to be a bad thing isn't it...

Only in Blackburn.

How's your neck Mungo?

As I've said previously, Rhodes might be worthy of a place on the Burnley bench but I wouldn't risk more than say £4million to 5million to bring him in. Decent goalscorer but quite one-dimensional. Impact sub at best.

Ever since I saw this kid gives his boots to that young fan I kind of knew he was a class act, well done Son you deserve it. I've said this so many times lately but we give it out and have done over the years in spades so credit where it's due. However a few of you just have to try and get a reaction by mentioning our situation as usual, but this is genuine FROM ME and fair play to you I say. RTID
