WINGER Craig Conway reckons it is time to cut out the play-off talk – and concentrate on getting Blackburn Rovers’ faltering season back on track.

Going into tomorrow’s trip to Huddersfield Town Gary Bowyer’s side find themselves nine points off the top six after their losing run stretched to three matches on Tuesday when they went down 1-0 to Bournemouth.

But when asked whether Rovers still have an outside chance of making the play-offs Conway, who won promotion from the Championship with Cardiff City last season, said: “To be honest thinking too far ahead is dangerous.

“You eventually start to run out of games and you cannot keep saying we have 12 games left.

“We have to take it one game at a time and treat the next game as the most important.

“If you deal with that game then you can concentrate on the next one.

“That’s personally the way I look at it and all we can be focused on now is the big game we’ve got coming up at Huddersfield on Saturday.”

Conway was Rovers’ best outfield player in the woeful home loss to Bournemouth.

But while he is pleased by the way he has played since his January transfer deadline day switch from Cardiff, he would prefer the team to be performing.

“The most important thing is for the team to be doing well,” said Conway, who believes Rovers cannot use their injury problems as an excuse for their sharp loss of form.

“I want to be playing in a winning side and I’m sure we can be that again as we have got good players here.

“Three defeats do not make your season so we’ve got to keep working hard and I’m sure the boys will do it.”

Conway’s first goal for the club earned Rovers a 1-0 win at Reading three weeks ago which left them well placed to launch a push for the top six.

But since then they have been beaten by Bolton, Burnley and Bournemouth.

When asked to put his finger on what has gone wrong Conway said: “In the Championship everybody can beat everybody, especially at the business end of the season when teams are fighting for points.

“But we’ve got to keep fighting and with a win on Saturday we can be positive again and look forward to the next game.”

Conway admits there was disappointment around the dressing room after the loss to Bournemouth.

The Scotland international added: “We really wanted to get a result and put in a performance after losing to Burnley.

“I thought we started the game really well and put them under a lot of pressure but as the half went on we just stopped pressing and they started to get on the ball a bit more.

“In the second half I thought we were okay but the goal changed everything and after that we put in a lot of crosses without having any clear-cut chances.

“It’s disappointing but it’s gone now and we have to get ourselves up for a big game on Saturday.”
