BURNLEY are through to the semi finals of the Under 21s Premier League Cup after beating Exeter City 3-2 in extra time.

Nathan Lowe fired the winner for the Clarets, who will face Manchester City away in the last four, after Archie Love had two goals cancelled out in normal time.

There was only one real chance of note for either side before Love struck in the 23rd minute, with winger Micah Evans providing the assist.

Jason Gilchrist then went close on the volley, following more good work by Evans, while Tom Anderson was unlucky not to score with a header.

Burnley, who were forced into a number of changes with Cameron Howieson, Luke Conlan and Cameron Dummigan away on international duty, had made a promising start in Andy Farrell's first game in charge of the development squad.

But with just a goal in it Exeter came on strong in the second half, and equlaised in the 79th minute through Jimmy Keohane.

Love thought he had won it when his 25-yard hit got the better of the goalkeeper just three minutes from time.

Tom Nichols had other ideas, however, and forced extra time with a 91st minute equaliser.

Lowe put Burnley in front for a third time in the tie.

And despite a couple of scares that's how it stayed to keep the Clarets in the cup.
