TUESDAY night’s battling performance to earn a draw against Bury, despite being harshly down to 10 men, was a cracking result for the Reds.

I left the ground feeling happy at the effort and resilience shown by the lads, and overjoyed at Marcus Bettinelli’s superb performance in the Stanley goal.

The long trip to Torquay was never going to be easy as they are also currently at the wrong end of the table and fighting for their place in the Football League.

The Reds played well and it was testament to their efforts that the Torquay keeper had a man of the match performance.

A special piece of skill was needed to break the deadlock and it was super sub Kal Naismith who provided it. Kal jinked past three Torquay players before unleashing an exquisite strike that secured victory.

The very fact that that Naismith was on the bench so soon after his injury shows he has a determination to succeed at this level.

We take on Portsmouth tonight in what will be another tough away trip. Let’s hope we are still at least eight points clear of the drop zone at the end.
